Should music have meaning or not?

This is not an attack on today's music;

We all have separate reasons why we listen to music. Further more, some of those reasons are fused, for instance: both entertainment and reflection.

Some genres of music do not have a main focus, apart from dance, and in contrary, for other genres that casually express a strong message for people to heed, 'should this music have meaning or not?'

People's reaction to Lauryn Hill's Unplugged, was somewhat questionable. Were the majority of Lauryn Hill fans listening to her music for entertainment, or for a message? Take 'Doo Wop(That Thing)'; holds both a strong message and a feel good beat.

'Just Like Water', 'Mystery Of Iniquity': are fans of music simply fans of feel good tunes, or actually fans of musicians who put out a message to console hearts, encourage knowledge and provide solutions to life's problems...

Also musicians like The Killers( Mr. Brightside), The Fray(How To Sve A Life), Beyonce( Ring The Alarm), Kanye West ???

Music is Meaning

"If I should ever die, God forbid, let this be my epitaph:

THE ONLY PROOF HE NEEDED FOR THE EXISTENCE OF GOD WAS MUSIC"

- Kurt Vonnegut Jr. (1922-11-11 - 2007-04-11*)

It should have meaning
Of course it should have meaning.then whats the whole point of it?
Music always has a meaning (if not meaning- effect), whatever you do to it. But that effect can also be counter-progressive or downright offensive. For nothing. Themes of misogyny etc are examples of this. The meaning of a piece of music can be buried far too deep only when ruined completely, and in some cases of pop, hip hop, and some rock and metal, this happens more often than before.
Music with meaning is art - music without meaning is pop.
I think it should have meaning. If it doesn't it's not worth the time to bother singing it.
